In a continued effort to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID19), Kewadin Casinos will be temporarily closing all five Kewadin Casinos, located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Six tribal casinos in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula have been closed for three weeks, as announced by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Bay Mills Resort and Casino and five Kewadin Casinos closed voluntarily, since tribal casinos are not subject to state regulations.

Kewadin Casinos stated it “will continue to follow all health and sanitation guidelines in place, as well as the current phase chart which outlines restrictions based on positivity rates in each county.”
Michigan Live reported the tribe had prepared additional funding to pay employees while the casino is closed.
Bay Mills Resort and Casino is expected to reopen on 8 December, while Kewadin Casinos should resume work on 9 December.

Michigan has 24 tribal casinos in total and the other 18 tribal casinos in the state will remain open with additional precautions, such as restaurant closures and event cancellations.

The Hannahville Indian Community’s Island Resort and Casino said: “Guests and employees’ health and safety are our top priority as we continue to remain diligent in our cleaning and safety protocols. At this time, we will be remaining open.”
However, events at the venue were cancelled until 10 December and restaurants continue to operate on a take-out basis.
